Year 2 Geography
Year 2 children joined an online webinar live from Antarctica. This was hosted by Robert Swan OBE, the first person to walk to both poles, and Jenny Cooke from the 2041 Schools charity and founder of Oddizzi, in which we are using for our Geography lessons. The Spirit of St Joseph’s

'Lost in the Toy Museum'
The children have been sequencing the story, retelling the story and explaining how specific characters feel. We have shared adjectives to describe a character’s feelings as well as exploring different verbs to describe what the toys are doing. Year 2 Advent Promises
The children in Year 2 have been making their Advent promises as part of our preparations for Christmas. The children have been reflecting on the meaning of Advent and have thoughtfully created their Advent promises and related it to their everyday lives. These promises encourage the children to live out Catholic Social Teaching by showing love for others, caring for creation, and promoting justice and peace as they prepare their hearts for the coming of Jesus.

Nursery – Week Beginning 24th November 2025
This week in Nursery, we have loved diving into the world of The Gruffalo ! The children have had great fun retelling the story with their friends and using rich vocabulary to describe all the characters. In the Gruffalo Café, we practised our number-recognition skills as we took orders and served our “customers.” We also enjoyed getting creative with a range of Gruffalo-inspired crafts. Our Visit to Seven Stories
What an amazing day Year 1 had at Seven Stories. The children discovered fascinating facts about animal homes and even designed their own habitat guides with the help of Daisy, the Animal Ranger who said they were some of the best guides she has ever seen! Exploring Baptism Through Role Play
As part of our RE curriculum the children explored the sacrament of baptism in a hands-on and meaningful way. They learned about its significance in the Christian faith and practiced using key vocabulary such as font , holy water , godparents and blessing . St Joseph’s Rain Garden Project
Year 6 are participating in the ‘Growing the Future - Watery West End’ project. As our climate is changing and we are getting more heavy rain showers, many school grounds and gardens are suffering from flooding and waterlogging. Jennie from Scotswood Garden is on a mission to help schools and local communities to develop rain gardens and plant up areas with water loving plants to help remedy the problem. Year 5 Maths Squares
Following on from our work on factors and multiples, Year 5 used concrete manipulatives to support our understanding of square and cubed numbers. We made square shaped arrays using different amounts of cubes – 1, 4, 9, 16 etc, realising that we couldn’t make a square with other amounts – then attempted to represent cube numbers by making the arrays 3D. It took so many cubes to make larger cube numbers, that we almost ran out of cubes by end!

Reception Class – Exploring Space!
This week, we’ve been on an exciting journey into space! We read two wonderful books: Whatever Next and Look Up , which sparked our curiosity about the universe. We also learned about Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to travel into space. We talked about what it’s like to be an astronaut. Remembrance Day at St Joseph’s School
Our school came together to honour and remember those who served and sacrificed for peace. Children took part in a special assembly and observed a two-minute silence to show their respect. Each class reflected on the importance of kindness, courage, and gratitude, with messages of hope displayed across our school. We are proud of how our pupils embraced this meaningful day and helped keep the spirit of remembrance alive.
