Today in Year 1, we had a fantastic maths lesson all about the number 10! Our challenge was: “How many different ways can we make 10?” To help us, we used tens frames and cubes. Science - Measuring Feet - Do the Oldest Children Have the Longest Feet?
We explored an exciting science enquiry question this week:“Do the oldest children have the longest feet?” To investigate, the children worked in pairs and drew around their feet on large sheets of paper. Advent Collective Worship
This week, Year 1 gathered for a special Collective Worship. We talked about how we prepare for Jesus’ birthday, like decorating our homes and opening our Advent calendars. Christmas Shape Fun in Year 1.
This week, Year 1 have been learning all about 2D shapes! We practised naming and recognising shapes such as circle, square, rectangle, triangle and even trickier ones like hexagon and pentagon. After exploring their properties, the children used these shapes to create beautiful Christmas pictures. We saw Christmas trees made from triangles, Snow people made from circles and presents from squares and rectangles. It was a fantastic way to combine maths with festive creativity!

Year 1 Christingle Learning
This week, Year 1 explored the meaning and message of the Christingle. The children learned about each part of the Christingle and what it represents: The orange reminds us of the world. 'Lost in the Toy Museum'
The children have been sequencing the story, retelling the story and explaining how specific characters feel. Our Visit to Seven Stories
What an amazing day Year 1 had at Seven Stories. Virtual Visit: Exploring Bridges on the River Tyne
This week, our Year 1 children took part in a virtual geography visit to explore the fascinating bridges that cross the River Tyne. Exploring Greater Than, Less Than and Equal To
In Year 1, children begin to develop a deeper understanding of numbers and their relationships. One exciting area of learning is comparing numbers using the concepts of greater than (≥), less than (≤), and equal to (=). Children have been busy exploring these symbols through hands-on activities and group work. They have built confidence in using mathematical language to describe their thinking. We’re Going on an Autumn Hunt
Year 1 have been enjoying looking for signs of Autumn. We hunted around the outdoor environment in search of signs of autumn. We found berries, brown, yellow and red leaves, fallen leaves and apples.
