Year 5 have had an exciting start to their Hidden Treasures Art and History project in partnership with North East Museums. The project began with a fantastic visit to the Great North Museum, where the children took part in hands on activities focused on exploring, analysing, and interpreting real artefacts. They listened brilliantly, demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout, and impressed the museum staff with their curiosity and teamwork.
Back at school, the class were joined by Morgan from the Great North Museum for a follow up workshop. The children deepened their thinking about what “treasures” can be—both historical and personal—and began to develop ideas for their own treasures that will inspire their artwork.
The project will continue later this term with a visit from a professional artist, who will guide Year 5 in creating a large scale collaborative artwork. Their finished piece will be proudly displayed in the Great North Museum’s Hidden Treasures gallery from May to September—an incredible opportunity for our young artists to showcase their creativity to the wider community.
