National Curriculum
The provision of time and resources
at St. Joseph's follows National curriculum guidelines and ensures the
successful teaching of Core
and Foundation subjects. The Core subjects (or Main Study areas) are
English, Maths and Science.
The Foundation Subjects are Design
Technology, Geography, History, Music, Art, and Physical Education.
Religious Education is central to our school life and very existence. In
partnership with the home and the parish, we aim to provide a religious
education which promotes the teachings of Jesus and the value of prayer

Two teachers per class
St. Joseph's is unique in pioneering the Two Teachers system. The
rationale is that two teachers work side-by-side in the same classroom, one
teacher supporting the less able children in English and Maths - and
thereby developing their individual potential - while the other teacher takes
a much larger portion of the class. Thus, the progress and development of
the average and above-average child is not compromised by the need to
ensure that all the class keep up, while the less-able child benefits from a
degree of teacher-contact which would otherwise be impossible outside
the independent sector.
Homework
Homework
is set with two important criteria in Mind:
-
that children should spend set
period of their home time carrying out reading activities and other
exercises designed to back up the work
carried out at school:,
-
to help children,
especially in the upper Juniors, develop the ability to work independently.
The Class Teacher will advise you of
the content and times required to successfully carry out all homework
activities. You are expected to
supervise all homework and must accept this responsibility.
